Network: Troubleshooting Cisco Clean Access
|
Cisco Clean Access is an application that makes sure that your computer is ready to be connected to the Marietta College network. In order to join the college network, you must have up-to-date virus protection and a firewall, and you need to have installed critical Windows updates.
The solution below gives you some tips on correcting any problems you may encounter while going through Clean Access.

Step #1

|
Possible Problem: You blocked Clean Access with the firewall.
Add Clean Access to your "Safe" or "Allow" list in your firewall program.
If you are using the Windows firewall, follow the steps below.
- Click Start, and click Control Panel.
- Double-click Windows Firewall.
- Click the Exceptions tab.
- In the Programs and Services list, click the check box next to Cisco Clean Access. Click OK.
- Restart Clean Access or reboot your computer to try to gain access again.

Possible Problem: You have antivirus software other than Symantec.
Other antivirus software may cause a conflict with Clean Access and will block you from connecting to the Internet.
Remove your personal antivirus software and install the college's version of Symantec antivirus.
- Click Start and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
- Find your personal antivirus software in the list and click to highlight it.
- On the right, click Remove. Windows will help you uninstall the software.
- Open Internet Explorer and go to liveupdate.marietta.edu. Note: If you have Windows Vista, you will need to get Symantec antivirus through the Briefcase.
- Install Symantec antivirus and allow it to update your virus definitions.

Possible Problem: You have personal firewall software other than the Norton Internet Security version.
Other firewall software may cause a conflict with Clean Access and will block you from connecting to the Internet.
Remove your personal firewall software and activate the Windows firewall.
- To turn on your Windows firewall, click Start and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Windows Firewall.
- Click the button next to On and click OK.
- To remove your personal firewall software, open the Control Panel again and double-click Add or Remove Programs.
- Find your personal firewall software in the list and click to highlight it.
- On the right, click Remove. Windows will help you uninstall the software.

Possible Problem: Your computer needs a critical Windows update.
- Open Internet Explorer and go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com.
- On the update page, click Express to see, download, and install any necessary updates.

Possible Problem: The Clean Access update seems to be stuck.
This problem can be a bit tougher to solve on your own, but there are a few standby tricks to try.
- Reboot the computer.
- Shut
down Clean Access by right-clicking on it in the system tray (next to
the clock) and choosing Shut Down. Then open it again and try logging
in again.
